Grizzly Adventure

Our adventure started in Anchorage by taking a small (really small) plane to Lake Clark NP. We landed on the beach where in the distance bears were digging for clams at low tide. From our cabin at the lodge we could see them graze in the meadow in front of us – just like the cows in Switzerland. ATV’s with trailers transported us into the fields where we had to leave our trailers and walk through the grass to get closer to the bears. What an adventure! We were lucky to see a mother bear and 3 cubs, really close to us. The mother was very relaxed and accepted us from the beginning, even “used” us as a protective shield between her, her cubs and the other (male) bears who might kill her cubs. Well, we didn’t have to fulfill this obligation 😉
